Eliza and Her Monsters SPOILER FREE Review

Eliza and Her Monsters

Author: Francesca Zappia

Rating: 4/5 Stars

Tea Recommendation: Rooibos Mango Tea

Eighteen-year-old Eliza Mirk is the anonymous creator of Monstrous Sea, a wildly popular webcomic, but when a new boy at school tempts her to live a life offline, everything she’s worked for begins to crumble.

OVERALL:

This book is original, entertaining, and has an awesome mix of both pictures and print. You dive in to this world that Eliza has created, and not only that but you empathize with the struggles that Eliza has, both on and offline. It is 4/5 stars for me, because I feel like there are some parts that aren’t exactly necessary, and it took a while for me to get in to.

PROS:

Wow. Okay. This book is a whirlwind. I have to say that I really didn’t like Eliza at first. Something about her made it hard to connect until later in the book. The writing itself was actually really fantastic. But that’s part of what made it so fantastic, because even though I had a hard time connecting with her character at first, I was able to empathize and feel for her and really root for her as the plot developed. It was so different, and it was nice to see how much development happened.

CONS:

For all the good things about this book, there were a few things that I didn’t quite enjoy. One thing was that I feel like this book had an additional twenty pages or so that weren’t necessary, and basically could’ve been trimmed down a bit.
